MCLA Minutes - October 17, 2006

The Board of MCLA met on October 17, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. at the office of Michael Freilich. In attendance were Michael Freilich, James Motsay, Marc Baer, Harry Baumohl, Michael Mastracci, Susan Land and Ali Doyle (who participated via telephone).

  1. We have prepared fifty (50) color copies of the invitation to the wine and cheese event which will be distributed by Ali in Howard County, in Carroll County to the domestic judges by Jay Block, in Anne Arundel County by James Motsay, in Baltimore County by Susan Land and in Baltimore City by James Motsay.
  2. Library presentations are scheduled to begin the third Thursday of every month. Susan Land will forward to Harry Baumohl the Power Point program and the MCLA logo. Harry Baumohl will arrange to have 100 8.5" x 11" of the fliers printed and distributed to members for their distribution, together with sixty larger (8.5" x 14"?) for distribution to each MCLA member. In addition, Harry will attempt to obtain a 20" x 36" (size is estimated) version of the flier mounted on foam board. If the cost is under $50.00 each, he will obtain two. At the upcoming MCLA dinner, Ali will provide a sign-up sheet for the remaining open slots for the library presentations.
  3. Collaborative Law training is scheduled for November 3 - 4, 2006. As of today, we have approximately thirty (30) registrants and have reached our break-even point. It was discussed that on Thursday evening Jim will pick up Sherri Slovin and take her to dinner and the hotel. On Friday, Meg Oliver and Susan Land will take Sherri Slovin to dinner. On Saturday night, Michael Freilich and Susan Land will take Sherri to dinner. The materials are ready to be produced once we have finalized the list of registrants. On mid-day Friday, Harry Baumohl will conduct the consumer Power Point presentation. On Saturday lunch, Michael will discuss ethics and Susan will present the Power Point for referral sources. For Friday evening's cocktail hour, we will be providing two laptops to run our various handouts. We will also make arrangements for the library brochures and MCLA brochures to be available at the cocktail party.
  4. We have received some requests for applications for CLE for Pennsylvania attendees of the November training. As best as we can, we will cooperate with the attendees, provide any requested information to assist them in completing any forms.
  5. Mike Mastracci will attempt to insert the MCLA logo on the Power Point presentation title slides and on each slide if possible. He will work with Susan and Greg on this project.
  6. The October 24, 2006 MCLA dinner currently has six registrants. It is expected that we will wind up with 11 - 15 people.
  7. There was a discussion concerning MCLA dues. A motion was made by Susan Land and seconded by James Motsay to reduce the dues to $200.00 per year. By a vote of 3 to 4, the motion failed.
  8. The holiday party is tentatively scheduled for December 6, 2006 at Matthews. Harry Baumohl will contact Meg Oliver to advise her to continue the planning preparations.
  9. We discussed advanced training for MCLA members in 2007. Marc had investigated the option with Pauline Tessler. The Board agreed that we should pursue it further, attempting if possible to have approximately 50 participants. It was suggested that we offer a substantial discount to our members and that the training be held after April 15, 2007, preferably on a Friday and Saturday.
  10. At the next Board meeting, Michael would like to have the suggested talking points on the successes of MCLA since its inception to be included for our various presentations.
  11. Marc Baer made a motion which was seconded by Susan Land that we contribute $100.00 to the Maryland Mediators convention. The motion passed unanimously.
  12. Susan Land presented a copy of Stu Webb's book. Although it is retail priced at $24.00, she believes that she can obtain it for between $8.00 - $15.00 per copy. A motion was made by Harry Baumohl and seconded by Michael Mastracci that MCLA purchase 35 copies of the book provided it could be obtained for $15.00 or less. It is the intention of the Board that if the books can be purchased, that a copy would be provided to each MCLA member as a member benefit.
  13. Susan Land will look into printing MCLA stickers with the logo and web site.
  14. The next meeting of the MCLA Board will be held at 5:30 p.m. on October 24, 2006 at the Greystone Grille immediately before the MCLA dinner.
