MCLA Minutes - September 6, 2007

  1. The September 6, 2007 meeting of the MCLA Board commenced at approximately 6:00 p.m.
  2. In attendance:
    Harry Baumohl
    Marc Baer
    Jim Motsay
    Mike Mastracci
    Stacey Andersen (via phone)
    Mary Stengel
  3. The following agenda topics were discussed:
    1. Meetings: The Board agreed that to increase interest in the membership, we would meet one time per month as a board; hold brown bags on the third Thursday of the month and a happy hour on the second Tuesday of the month. Happy hours will be held in different locations to accommodate members and interested persons. The first happy hour will be held at the Wine Market at 921 East Fort Ave. in Locust Point on 10/2 from 5-7 pm.
    2. Brown Bags: The next topic will be: “Why am I not getting enough collaborative cases” on 9/20 at Jim’s office. On 10/18, the topic will be “Dealing with bullies: attorneys and clients” at Jim’s office. On 11/15, the topic will be “What we have learned from difficult cases” at a location to be determined. If someone else wants to offer their space, they may. All brown bags take place at 12:00 noon. Board members divided up the list to call members and encourage their participation.
    3. Standards and protocol: the board discussed membership in IACP for MCLA members and the future of developing standards and protocols for our group, as we grow. Right now, we are not poised to create a system of standards and protocols.
    4. Bylaws: Jim will circulate to membership. He will forward an attachment to Stacey and she will send on to membership for a comment period, so the board can then vote on the changes.
    5. Committees to be established:
      1. Education and training (Jim and Ali to head);
      2. Membership (Paul, Marc and Mike to head);
      3. Public awareness (Harry, Stacey and Mary to head). Membership will be encouraged to join in and provide support.
    6. Advertising: Stacey continuing to paced ads on behalf of MCLA and update provided. Jim and Stacey to approach Marc Steiner for a possible radio show.
    7. Website review: possibility of updating. MCLA to ask Greg for a proposal on how much it will cost to update the website. Jim to contact Greg.
    8. MSBA: Marc will talk to MSBA about the possibility of getting some aspect of CL featured in next year’s annual convention.
    9. Training: Board members continuing to recruit trainees and ads will be placed in bar association publications in Baltimore City and County and to be posted on the calendar for the Daily Record. Discussion of involving untrained individuals in MCLA pending their training and how to recruit more trainees and members.
  4. The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
