MCLA Minutes - January 9, 2007

  1. The January 9, 2007 meeting of the MCLA Board commenced at approximately 8:05 a.m.
  2. The following individuals were in attendance:

    Mary Stengel

  3. The following agenda topics were discussed:
    1. Determined by Board that members who recently joined are covered through FY2008.
    2. Correction to billing error to Nancy Weller was approved by the Board.
    3. Board voted Stacey to serve as Secretary for this year.
    4. Dues statements have gone out to members, per Ali.
    5. Quickbooks program provided to Ali. Michael’s Quickbooks staffer and Ali to coordinate on set up of program.
    6. Sample data collection forms provided Jim Motsay. Form reviewed and discussed as to how, when and what information members would submit and that both attorneys and non-attorneys would report. Board agreed that the modified Texas form will be used. Jim will format and send to Greg Pickett for uploading on MCLA website. Jim will send email to all members about using form for past and current cases and to be submitted in the future by members.
    7. Presentation of 4/11/07 confirmed the MSBA business ADR program: Michael, Jim and Marc to present.
    8. Stacey to contact webmaster about converting member list for purpose of mailing labels.
    9. Jim to send email to board, regarding use of www.freeconferencecall.co pertaining to participation in board meetings via conference call.
    10. Public awareness meeting on 1/9/07 at 8:15 a.m. at Towson Diner. Jim, Harry, Michael and Stacey to attend.
    11. Training: Michael to contact Sherry Slovin and see if she can recommend someone who might be able to lead a training. Ali will meet with Sherry for MCLA next weekend.
    12. Brown Bag: First luncheon to be scheduled for 12:00 noon on 2/15/07 at Paul Dorf’s Office. Ali to present on topic of introducing collaborative to your client. Brown bag luncheon to be publicized to the MCLA. March topic to be presented by Jim: How to turn the other spouse. April: Harry to present.
    13. Michael to call Michael Lower for March 3/15 as to conference Third Thursdays: How to get other members of the bar involved. Call Jack Shapiro April for office. Oken's office May.
    14. Renee to prepare flier for the brown bag series and to prepare the poster for next 5 months.
    15. Dinner meeting: Joey Chiu’s Alley and Mary Stengel to coordinate on setting it up.
    16. Harry review minutes and bylaws as to this year's elections.
    17. Susan Land to contact Mr. Parente.
    18. Mental health providers to pay reduced membership fee of $200, which is reflective of their hourly rates, which are less than ours. For those who already paid for FY2007, they will receive a credit of $100 next year.
    19. Stacey and (possibly_ Mike Mastracci) to present 3/15 in Landstowne. Stacey to contact Mike about his availability.
    20. Per email: Mike Mastracci posted several library posters (Bertimimi's for Jim) Mars and Sorento and a liquor store in Arbutus, and Coffee shop in Catonsville. Mike has sent about 15 letters to lawyers along with MCLA materials, the library schedule, and Ali's upcoming training. He has not heard back from Catonsville Times and will follow up.
